Orange Solidarity: more than 10,000 beneficiaries of digital solidarity in the first quarter of 2016

Formed in 2007 with the support of Orange and the Orange Foundation, Orange Solidarity is our largest digital partner-association. The association oversees the action undertaken by the Orange volunteers and employees who donate their skills. Orange Solidarity organises their acts of digital solidarity in associations around France.

The programmes run by the Orange Foundation in the area of digital education and training focus in particular on youths and women in difficulty. There are three pillars to the program: digital equipment, individual support, and free access to educational content. Within this structure, support is organised and run by the members of the Orange Solidarity association. The association’s volunteers and employees donating their skills are all Orange employees with expertise and the desire to pass on their knowledge.

Specifically, Orange Solidarity offers its members two types of mission: organising and running training workshops focusing on and using digital technology for those in need; and supporting associations with their digital transformation, i.e. creating a website, running social media, etc.

More than 10,000 beneficiaries in the first quarter of 2016

From 1,000 workshops in France in 2012, the number of beneficiaries has risen to some 2,200 in the first quarter of 2016 alone. This increase can be explained by a significant rise in the number of requests made by associations and beneficiaries to better understand digital technology. Some 10,375 youths and women in difficulty supported by the associations received digital training by Orange Solidarity in the first quarter of 2016! All in all, more than 500 associations have received Orange Solidarity’s support. Since Orange Solidarity was formed, the number of volunteers and employees donating their skills has risen steadily and now stands at 361.

Vital support for our digital education programs

The support offered by the association is closely linked to our three digital education programs in France. Some of the volunteers and employees who support youngsters in the Solidarity FabLabs, such as in Toulouse, also contribute to the Ensemble programme for the integration of youths and help women to learn digital skills in Digital Houses.
